The exhibition Kotkajärve Forest University – 50 years young, which was on display in Toronto from April 2017 until September 2017, will be travelling Estonia on the country’s centenary year.The first venue the exhibition will be unveiled, is Tartu Song Festival Museum. The opening is on 11th of January at 17.00 PM and we are awaiting both old and new friends. During the opening ceremony Valdur Mikita, Tiina Kirss, Ahto Kaasik, Anu Raud, Triin Käpp, Anne-Ly Reimaa, Riina Kindlam and Lea Kreinin will be sharing their memories. Julgī Stalte will be giving a musical performance.The colorful photo exhibition tells a story of Forest University’s polemic and troubling inital outset during the Cold War, and paints an enrapturing image of Forest University nowadays. Kotkajärve Forest University is a unique and a very special enterprise, born amidst Canadian forests, that has created an international movement with it’s youngest offshoot being Kääriku Forest University in Estonia.Kotkajärve Forest University has been an everlasting summer study camp on a territory that belongs to Estonians in Canada. At the first opportunity, lecturers and instructors from Estonia were invited there. The most important part has always been preserving Estonian language; learning, teaching and communicating in language immersion environment. The Forest University has helped the outside world to understand events in Estonia and thereby contributed to building bridges between homeland Estonians and foreign Estonians’ communities.The exhibition was produced in collaboration of homeland and foreign Estonians – designer and editor Elle Palumäe and text author Lea Kreinin live in Estonia, voluntary members of Forest University’s Board operate in Toronto.The purpose of the touring exhibition is to celebrate and introduce Kotkajärve Forest University. The exhibition is a centenary gift to Estonian Republic.
