On 10th October at 5.30 PM a tour in English will be held at Tartu City Museum. Just as in the famous novel by Marcel Proust, there remain only certain memorabilia from several periods of the history of Tartu. Yet they have left their impact on the present-day university town.The 45-minute tour in the permanent exhibition of Tartu City Museum (Narva Road 23) focuses on a few of these significant items, that are on display to create memories of these bygone times. Starting from the prehistoric origins of the town, the medieval period, the early modern fortified town where the university was founded (1632), the destruction of the old town and the building of the Classicist town centre, to the role of Tartu in the periods of the independence of the Estonian Republic and the Soviet occupation are explained.The tour guide will be Tartu City Museum’s Head of archaeologigal department Arvi Haak.The entry fee is 2 euros.
